R Venkatesan, CMarTech

Dr. R.Venkatesan, CMarTech & MTS Fellow, has 42 years of experience in ocean science and technology. He has worked in ocean observation, marine law and policy. He is the Founder Chair of MTS India Section achieving steady growth and garnering acknowledgement and accolades. He worked in UNESCO-IOC as a GOOS NFP Consultant and Regional Coordinator for South Asian Seas of UNEP Regional Seas Programme of SACEP, Sri Lanka; He was nominated by Govt of India to serve in various capacities in UNESCO and WMO, such as Chair of GRA; Member of SC-GOOS, Vice Chair of SG-OOIS of WMO; Member INFCOM, Member & Chair of Capacity Development of SC-ON of WMO. In this role he promoted in expanding global ocean measurements, development of standards, guidelines, Ocean Best Practices; Organized events, in particular, to promote Ocean observation in SIDS, Africa region and closely associated with industry through GOOS-NOAA-MTS Industry Dialogue & WMO discussions with HMEI. Upon his retirement, he is continuing his passion to support young researchers, startups and teaching in the University; He is also honoured to serve as Adjunct Professor in University of Massachusetts Dartmouth USA and member of DOOS, OASIS, FV-ON, OBPS Policy Task Team. He has received many awards including Lockheed Martin Award and to his credit 190 papers, edited 3 books and 6 patents.
